A new homepage

I wanted to have a different layout for my homepage, so I updated it today. Take a look at it (and refresh your browser).

Because I started the banana leafs theme, I looked for nice banana plant illustrations. Not just to stay in the same theme… but also because I think it is funny to use a banana on your hompage, due to the banana rule 🍌. The ‘banana rule’ has a close relation to the word usecue.

I found a nice looking drawing of a banana plant in The Plant Kingdom by William H. Brown. He created this around 1935, so I guess I can use it for free. I traced the image in Inkscape and added some light and dark colors to it, so it would have the right aesthetic. Then I compressed it using I love SVG, reducing it to 50% of its original filesize, because… well, you know… I am a performance nerd.

Isn’t it great that this 90 year old pen drawing now lives on in a digital and vectorized form? I sure think so.
