Jade Wong ran Red Bamboo, a vegan restaurant in New York, for 24 years. Billie Eilish publicly named it her favorite place to eat. Wix featured it on their homepage. By the time the menu appeared, the hungry customers had already gone elsewhere and never came back.

I rebuilt a similar Wix website as a test. The original was 30 MB and took 35 seconds to become interactive. The rebuild was under 1 MB and loaded in 1.2 seconds. Visually identical. My educated guess is that the slow website cost Red Bamboo around 50% of its potential customers. Customers who never returned and never referred anyone else. I think it might even be the reason why Red Bamboo had to close its doors.
