Who is Hiroshi Abe?

Hiroshi Abe (阿部 寛, born June 22, 1964) is a Japanese actor. He became known for his role in TRICK and Godzilla 2000. Wikipedia

The Japanese actor’s website is known in Japan for its simple design. It’s often said to resemble the internet of the 1990s in Japan. It’s also used by fans to benchmark consoles and hardware. It has become an ‘internet challenge’ to open this site in the most random apps and games.

“Okay… but what does that have to do with you?”, you might wonder. I noticed that in my Google Search Console, this regularly came up: 阿部寛のホームページ より 早い. This means: “Faster than Abe Hiroshi’s website”. Apparently, there are quite a few Japanese people looking for websites that load faster than Hiroshi Abe’s website… and they end up at my site. Not entirely justified, as my website definitely doesn’t load fast in Japan (as the server is located in the Netherlands). But there is a Japanese person who has marked my website as the fastest website on the internet. He created a link to my website and it was picked up by the search engine. That’s why the search term ‘fastest website’ will send you to my site, especially when searching from Japan (which I can see in Google Search Console).

Of all website visitors to my site, 80% now come from Japan. Pretty cool, right?
